Obituary

Peggy Jean Nickell Burgess, 96, of Middletown OH, lived her life with style, and then passed away peacefully on October 26, 2026, at Meadow Falls Assisted Living.

She was born on July 22, 1930 and attended school in Hamilton, OH. In 1951, Peggy married Robert Nickell. Following his death in 1967, out of necessity Peggy developed strength and resilience as she became the anchor for her young family.

Peggy is survived by her children, Wesley Nickell, Robin Way, and Patrick Nickell (Lisa). She was proud to be the matriarch of our family, and will be missed by her grandchildren Robert Nickell, Laura Ronto, Tyler Way, Grant Way (Megan), Abby LaGreca (Anthony), Garrett Nickell, Kelsie Bowling (Maxwell), and Elly Abel (Tim). Peggy was an unforgettable Gaga to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Landon, Kooper, Kylee, Kollins, Lia, Quinn and Rowan. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Marie Azbill, her husband, and her brother, James Azbill.

Across the years Peggy enjoyed many days spent with friends and neighbors as they volunteered with the annual Middfest International cultural festivals, as a member of the First Christian Church singing in the church choir, leading girl scout activities and gardening. She was honored for her continuous service with a Middfest Middie award.

In recent years, Peggy greatly enjoyed one of life's simple pleasures, sitting on the porch and listening to music. 'I Did it my Way' by Frank Sinatra was one of her favorites.

A memorial service will be held on November 2, 2026 @1:00pm, at Woodside Funeral Home, Middletown OH. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to St. Jude, which was near to Peggy's heart.
